Registered Nurse

 Search is looking to hire a Registered Nurse to be a part of a team of professionals to bring quality, care to adults with disabilities. Our Nurses have the extraordinary ability to change lives and empower others to do the same.

Minimum Requirements

  • Unencumbered Illinois professional nurse license,
  • RN license with one of the last five years being clinical nursing experience,
  • Licensed Practical Nurse license is acceptable if the nurse is also a Registered Professional Nurse,
  • Basic computer proficiencies,
  • Ability to lift up to 44lbs,
  • Ability to perform basic physical moves such as kneeling, reaching, crouching, bending, and twisting,
  • Familiarity with applicable regulations and standards, including DHS Rules116, 115, and 50,
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance,
  • Complete the DHS Nurse-Trainer class and achieve a passing grade on the exam within three months of hire,
  • Pass CPR and First Aid within one month of hire.

Preferred Experience

  • DHS approved Nurse-Trainer certification in Illinois,
  • Two years of experience working with individuals with intellectual/Developmental Disabilities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership abilities by working cooperatively with Search colleagues, encouraging teamwork, respecting differing viewpoints, and demonstrating the ability to solve problems creatively from an agency-wide perspective,
  • Present yourself in a professional manner as a representative of Search to individuals, family members, guardians, medical professionals, community members, and representatives from affiliated agencies,
  • Actively participate and contribute to assigned committees and task forces,
  • Manage assigned work-load effectively by meeting established deadlines,
  • Maintain compliance with personnel policies as stated in the Employee Handbook,
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Corporate Compliance policy including the employee work rules and state/federal regulations such as DHS Rules 120, 119, 116, 115, 50, and other applicable state and federal laws,
  • Collaborate with Search staff, doctor’s offices, and other IDT members about medical and pharmacy services for individuals receiving services from Search,
  • Assist with the ordering, receipt, and distribution of medications as ordered by physicians,
  • Work with pharmacy to communicate when individuals are not receiving services, are discharged, or when there are new admissions,
  • Complete monthly MAR reconciliation (pre and post), facilitate monthly medication check in, and resolve issues with pharmacy regarding prior authorizations, medication orders, and missing medications,
  • Monitor medications and treatments for side effects, toxicity, therapeutic results and provide coordination for follow-up as needed,
  • Annually, ensure that all residential staff are trained to administer medications according to DHS Rule 116 guidelines, and all required documentation associated is submitted within two business days,
  • Lead the medication error reporting process, submit reports to administration, and retrain staff when necessary,
  • Complete annual nursing assessments, and the online Health Risk Screening Tool by their due dates,
  • Administer medications when required,
  • Prepare medical summaries for the interdisciplinary team as assigned,
  • Prepare monthly medical reports in an accurate and timely manner,
  • Complete laboratory requisitions as scheduled,
  • Complete incident reports according to policy,
  • Participate in weekly on-call rotation,
  • Complete all CEU’s within required timeframe,
  • Advocate for individual rights and services,
  • Other duties as assigned.
