Education and Fun at the Council on Quality & Leadership Conference!
In October 2017, Search sent six of our staff members to the Council on Quality and Leadership (CQL) Conference in Indianapolis, IN! Our staff members Tasha, Tami, Jennifer, Carolyn, Keith, and Charles represented Search's many service areas including the Supported Living and Adult Learning programs, Community Inclusion/Integration initiatives, and HR, training, retention, and recruitment.
This year's CQL Conference was themed "Blueprint For Person-Centered Practices." It brought together experts spanning diverse spheres of human services, not only in principle, but in practice. Attendees left with specific steps to help individual lives, whole organizations and entire systems, evolve.
On their first day at the conference, our team sat in on the Self-Advocate panel and heard a profound remark from one of the self-advocates:
"My niece - my sister's daughter - is studying law. She surprised me recently by coming to my ISP meeting. Afterwards, she called me to say that she was impressed with what she saw and heard. She told me she was proud of me. I fell apart when I heard her say that. She asked me, 'Hasn't anyone ever told you that? That they are proud of you?' And I said, 'Yes, but not nearly enough.'"
The Search team had a great time going to trainings, networking, sharing inspiration and.... gambling?! Actually it was just a creative Human Rights card game, played with chocolate chips!
Plus, did we mention there were FREE PENS?! ;-)
It was an educational trip for staff members, who brought home new ideas for implementing person centered practices into daily life at Search.
