How does your support make a difference?
Every day, Search provides essential housing, employment, adult learning, and supportive services so people with disabilities can live full, active lives in the community. The people we serve and their loved ones witness first-hand the powerful impact of these services. Pete Petersen and Siri Gadbois, two of our family members, recently shared their experiences with Search:
Pete - My sister Laura has been a resident in Search's Supported Living Program for ten years now. Recently I visited Laura for dinner and was absolutely amazed at how well cared for she is by the Direct Service Professionals (DSPs) in her home. DSPs like Roxanna, who has been at Search 8 years, Marilyn, and Cheryl, are unsung heroes who toil behind the scenes as primary caregivers. I wonder how I could possibly care for Laura if Search and their dedicated DSPs were no longer an option.
Siri - My son Anton joined Search's No Boundaries program last August. It was a time when Anton had struggled to find and keep part-time employment. Within a short time No Boundaries staff helped Anton redirect his energies and understand where communication was breaking down at work. They assisted Anton in finding first an internship and then a paid, part-time position at Hewn Bakery in Evanston. The continuing support and guidance provided by No Boundaries staff has turned Anton's life around. As parents we couldn't be more pleased with his progress or more proud of his successes.
Search makes a difference every day in the lives of Laura, Anton, and more than 400 other loved ones with disabilities. The exceptional services Laura and Anton receive inspired Pete and Siri to give back through SEARCH TRAILBLAZERS 2016. Will you join them in supporting this important fundraising event?
