Giving Tuesday 2023: Search Is Opportunity Featuring John

Search Is Opportunity Featuring John
This year for Giving Tuesday, we are celebrating the diverse roles Search takes on for those we support. For many people, Search Is Opportunity, unlocking pathways to competitive community employment. Visibility Artist, Theo, has drawn an image depicting someone reaching for a star. This illustrates how Search empowers people to realize their full potential through programs that allow them to fulfill their hopes and dreams. Our Career Services program does just that by supporting people with disabilities in securing competitive and integrated employment in their communities.
We spoke with John, a proud Home Depot employee who worked closely with our Career Services program, receiving assistance with the application, interview process and on-the-job training. Working as a lot associate, John enjoys helping customers with returns and bringing items to their car. He shared that, “A good day is when a customer smiles at me. I smile back and I say thank you! [My coworkers] say I’m doing really great.” He has been at Home Depot for about a year and loves his job there. Congratulations, John! Watch the full video featuring John here.
Not only have doors opened for John through employment in his community, he also enjoys regular community outings with his friends at Search. Search provides a variety of enriching activities to people, including trips to restaurants, theater performances, parks, local businesses and more that open doors for individuals to fully integrate into their communities. These outings allow people to integrate into their local communities while building meaningful relationships with neighbors and other residents. All of these opportunities are made possible by our generous supporters!
Robert Parkinson, our Career Services Division Manager, shared that, “John is the perfect example of what a person can accomplish when they set an achievable goal for themselves. He sought out the people to help him, accepted their expertise and support and then participated in and executed his own personal employment plan. It is people like John who make our Career Services Department so successful in what we do here at Search".
We are so glad you are here John! Thanks for being a part of Search!
You have a special opportunity to get involved with Search this Giving Tuesday and support us in inspiring people with disabilities to achieve their full potential. Give today!
