Giving Tuesday 2023: Search Is You Featuring The Pritchett Family
Search Is You Featuring the Pritchett Family
This Giving Tuesday, we have been highlighting all of the different things Search means to the people we support. For Theo, Search is creativity; for the women at Sycamore, Search is home; and for John, Search is opportunity. Above all else, it means people with disabilities connecting with their local communities and creating their own, unique paths to a good life.
None of that would be possible without our staff members, families, communities, neighbors and supporters. Simply put, there would be no Search without you, because Search Is YOU.
Thank you for all that you do to support Search and make us who we are!
To illustrate this sentiment, for our final Giving Tuesday image, Visibility Artist Theo drew two people holding a star above them to show how our Search community comes together to empower people with disabilities and create a world where all people live, learn, work and play together as equals.
Meet the Pritchett family. They personify the many qualities that make Search what it is. Matthew Pritchett moved into a Search home about 5 years ago and in the time since, he has thrived as a Visibility Artist and as a friend to his housemates. Matthew is a big helper around the house and loves to cook. Matthew is also well-known for his artwork. You may have seen some of his drawings at our Planet Access store or around Chicagoland! His drawing of the Chicago flag is especially popular.
Recently, we spoke to Matthew and his parents, Lori and Tom, about what Search means to them. They shared that, “it is very comforting as a parent to know that your child is in good hands. It means everything”. Watch the full video featuring Lori, Matthew and Tom here.
Lori shared with us that after her and Tom toured “six or seven agencies to try to find the best fit [for Matthew]... it was very apparent that [Search] was really good. Now he will be here probably for the rest of his life, and that’s a big deal”. We are excited for Matthew as he continues on his path to building a great life in the community. There are so many experiences yet to come, so many memories yet to be made, and we can’t wait to see what Matthew can accomplish moving forward!
Thank you so much to the Pritchett family for being here at Search, we are grateful you are here and for all the joy you bring to our community!
Whether Search Is family, opportunity, creativity, home or something else entirely to you, consider donating today in support of our work. Every dollar makes a significant difference in the lives of people with disabilities. Thank you for your generosity!
