Meet a Sustainer: Maxine

Maxine is a monthly donor to Search and a member of the Sustainer Circle!  The Sustainer Circle is a special group of monthly donors who go above and beyond to sustain Search’s vital housing, employment, and educational services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

We sat down for a short Q&A session with Maxine to get to know her better.

Q: How did you first become acquainted with Search?
A: My sister Marcia is the one who found Search. She was living in another facility and didn’t like it. Jessica, Search’s Intake Coordinator, came to her house to see another client and Marcia asked if she could come too. Jessica told Marcia to have me call her and the rest is history.

Q: What motivated you to become a monthly donor?
A: I felt that I wanted to give something back to Search for all they've done for Marcia.

Q: What is your favorite part of supporting Search?
A: I know that my support is helping in any way they see fit. I just know that without Search's help things would be very different for Marcia.

Q: What do you wish people knew about Search?
A: Search is such a nurturing and caring agency. The houses are immaculate and the staff are so loving. At the Adult Learning site in Mt. Prospect, Marcia is learning about art and how to sell her paintings (through the Visibility Arts program). It is wonderful.

Q:  Tell us three things about yourself...
A: I like to help people. I have a great sense of humor. And I love my family.

Maxine's sister Marcia has lived in Search's community homes for 14 years and is also an artist in our Visibility Arts program. Click here to watch a special video about Marcia and Maxine's story.

If Search's work is important to you, please consider joining the Circle!  As a member, you will receive a gift from Search upon joining the program as well as recognition in the annual report. Above all, your recurring gift will make it possible for Search to continue providing services that help people with disabilities live, learn, work, and play as equals in the community.
