National Disability Employment Awareness Month - Jennifer Proves She's Equal to the Task

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). NDEAM is a national campaign that raises awareness about disability employment issues and celebrates the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities. The theme for this year is "Because We Are EQUAL to the Task."

Search’s Community Employment Services matches individuals to employers in the local community. Based on their interests and skills, Search job coaches assist individuals with creating their resumes, practicing interview skills and finding the right employer. Services do not end once employment is achieved. Job coaches provide the ongoing support and training necessary for the individual to maintain employment in the community.

Our Community Employment Services job coach, Sarah Meyerson, recently received a very nice call from the store manager of a local Home Depot. He was calling about one of his employees, Jennifer, who receives Employment services from Search. Jennifer recently won a customer service award, based on nominations she received from other employees and customers.

Jennifer started at Home Depot as a greeter, in mid-May. She is the first point of contact when customers enter the store. So, she sets the tone for the customers' experience while they are there. Many customers have commented on how helpful and friendly she is.

Jennifer has made tremendous strides since starting her job and is very pleased with her placement. This award qualifies her to be in the running to get $50-100 added to her paycheck. Her manager says Jennifer has made a big contribution to the store and that she has brought departments together merely by being friendly and helpful. We are all very proud of Jennifer for proving that she is ‘EQUAL to the Task ‘.
